La Marca Est, Oderzo e i Templari

Attività per gruppi valida per tutto l'anno - Only for groups

Excursion to the ancient “Opitergium” of the Romans, it was already an important center at the time of the ancient Venetians. Today it is a pleasant town that allows the visit of its archaeological areas simply walking in its historical center, which is therefore an outdoor museum. Thus we see the remains of the basilica, the forum, a domus and streets. Its present appearance is that of a town that has succeeded in combining the most ancient vestiges and the fortified medieval nucleus with the discreet charm of the Venetian city embellished by its ancient houses with facades often festively decorated “in the Veneto”, in fresco. In the cathedral, frescoes by Jacopo Palma il Giovane, works by Amalteo and a painting by Bellunello.

The Civic Museum contains interesting mosaics of hunting from the late Roman period; lunch in a restaurant; visit of Porto Buffolè.

The smallest municipality in the province of Treviso, on the border with Friuli Venezia Giulia Throughout the Middle Ages it was marked by various disputes for the control of the strategic locality, until it passed, together with the whole of the Treviso area, under the Most Serene Republic in 1389. Its prosperous past is revealed by the beautiful arcaded houses, from the main square dominated by the large ancient tower, the Monte di Pietà and the sixteenth-century municipal loggia. To see the Duomo, a former Jewish synagogue, and the house of Gaia da Camino, a noblewoman of whom Dante spoke in the XVI canto of the Purgatory, of Gothic style that preserves interesting frescoes inside. The singular historical center, in which time seems to have stopped, is of particular interest and attraction for a qualified and cultured tourism; finally the Temple of Ormelle. In the open countryside, near the town of Ormelle, there is the village of Tempio that preserves one of the rare and some surviving testimonies of the Templars. It is a church dating back to around the middle of the 12th century, a simple Romanesque building, with a characteristic bell tower and a large porch, very suggestive for its rustic harmony. Among the various traces of frescoes we can still see the characteristic red crosses, emblem of the Knights Templar. The order of the Templars, founded in 1119 at the time of the crusades with the aim of defending the Holy Land from infidels and Christian pilgrims, had also become a remarkable and independent economic power.
